Reparations

Barack is a punk for making a nice strong statement about Cambridge police arresting Louis Gates at his house and then backing down. It was asinine to arrest the guy at home on disorderly, and the proof is that they dropped the charges. If there is to be no charge, no real punishment for a crime, then the hubbub is a waste of time. Barack, winning points for calling people out, losing them for being a politico.

A buddy of mine obtained his first arrest and overnight jail experience, and its really for the best, because nobody got hurt when he was driving on martinis for the last time. He has shown symptoms of misalignment for years, and has usually prevailed as a good guy. Small glaring issues remained though, failure to develop interests outside of television and weed. Complete absence of game. So now he will be forced to see what happens when you cant enjoy several shots and a bong hit because the man will put you away. The point for us though is to take notice of things that do not seem quite right.

We get by with bad habits most of the time. Living in this country is relatively easy, we are generally pretty rich. Most of our issues end up being related to social competition or the absence of fulfillment. So I think people are able to get away with bad habits. My worst is not keeping records straight. This is a popular complaint. I have been looking through old notebooks in the lab to see how pretty they can be. Though the r squared is only around .59 I have noticed a historical correlation between note quality and success in our land of insanity. No notebooks or backdated notebooks? Unintelligible to nonauthors? Hotshot, jobs, success in the family. Absolutely pristine notebook that could teach someone everything about mol bio because everything up to daily temperature, humidity and ionic strength are recorded? Career assassinated by our lab. Have lots of protocols organized somewhere and decent notes that rarely include all the details but usually have good forward momentum? Possibility for great achievement outside the shadow of the big man.

So Im going to try to up things to that level. Mine are a wreck, though I think enough information has been recorded that I can fill them out some. By this I mean that I will be filling in the details on experiments dating back December before December. Oversight is key, always watch the chain of command. Sgt Crowley didnt avoid apologizing to Louis Gates Jr because he is an ass, but because his bosses wouldnt have it. I talked to the boss for the first time in nearly a month yesterday due to randomly well-placed vacations. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but the return? No more back tightening espresso in the afternoons for me.
